Watford have announced the return of Quique Sanchez Flores as head coach following the departure of Javi Gracia.

The 54-year-old returns to Vicarage Road, having helped the Hornets to a 13th-placed finish in 2015/16.

After leaving Watford in the summer of 2016, Sanchez Flores helped Espanyol to an eighth-place finish in LaLiga before taking charge of Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.

Gracia departure

Sanchez Flores's appointment was revealed shortly after the announcement of Gracia's exit.

"Javi has represented Watford with great dignity and will always be deserving of our fullest respect for his achievement," the club's chairman & CEO Scott Duxbury told Watford's official website.

Gracia succeeded Marco Silva in January 2018 and helped Watford finish 14th in his first campaign.

Last season Watford finished 11th and reached their first FA Cup final since 1984.

But Watford started the 2019/20 campaign poorly and are at the foot of the Premier League table with one point from four matches.
