Southampton are targeting a victory that would virtually guarantee their safety regardless of other results, while AFC Bournemouth are aiming to bounce back from their home defeat to Fulham.

Team news

Southampton's Jannik Vestergaard and Michael Obafemi (hamstring) remain sidelined, while Stuart Armstrong (hamstring) and Ryan Bertrand (ankle) are doubts.

But Matt Targett has recovered from a muscle problem and could replace Bertrand at left-back. Shane Long is also expected to be available after shaking off a knock sustained against Watford on Tuesday.

AFC Bournemouth's Junior Stanislas (knee) is facing three to four months of recovery after undergoing surgery, while Adam Smith (knock) will miss Saturday's match.

Lewis Cook, Simon Francis (both ACL), Charlie Daniels (knee), Diego Rico (ankle) and Andrew Surman (calf) are long-term absentees.

Southampton have scored at least once in their last 12 Premier League home matches.

Shane Long has scored in his last two PL home matches, having netted in just one of his previous 32. He has never scored in three successive home matches in the competition.

AFC Bournemouth are looking for their first away win against Southampton in all competitions, having drawn five and lost nine of their 14 trips there.

None of the Cherries’ last 20 PL away matches have ended in a draw (W6 L14), and the winning side have scored at least twice every time.
