FPL set-pieces: De Bruyne can lift Man City tally

The release of the 2019/20 fixture list allows Fantasy Premier League managers to start pre-season preparations, and a look at the opening matches suggests Manchester City will play a big part in early-season squads.

Pep Guardiola's men begin the campaign at West Ham United, where they won 4-0 last term.

After that, their home match with Tottenham Hotspur in Gameweek 2 is the only occasion in Man City's first 11 fixtures when they play any of last season's top six.

That schedule will lift the appeal of Aymeric Laporte (£6.5m), Sergio Aguero (£12.0m) and Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) as major targets for opening squads, while a fully fit Kevin De Bruyne (£9.5m) can also make an impact in 2019/20.

Captaincy candidates

Sterling produced 16 points at London Stadium in 2018/19 and will be among the top captaincy picks for Gameweek 1.

But both Sterling and Aguero face tough competition from Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) and Harry Kane (£11.0m) for the opening Gameweek's armband.

Both Salah and Kane are at home to promoted sides, with Liverpool facing Norwich City and Spurs taking on Aston Villa.

Kane's impact against Villa will be of particular interest to FPL managers, as Spurs are set for an outstanding run of home matches.

In their 10 fixtures in their new stadium before the turn of the year, Spurs will host only one of last season's top 10 teams, Chelsea, in Gameweek 18.

Eyes on Everton

Meanwhile, Everton are the only team to avoid all of last season's top-six teams in the first six Gameweeks.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (£8.0m) and Lucas Digne (£6.0m) averaged 4.8 and 4.5 points per match respectively last term and can be early targets for opening squads.
