Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) is expected to be the favourite captain pick in Gameweek 9 of Fantasy Premier League.

The Manchester City forward has been among the top two selected captains in each of the last three Gameweeks.

And a visit from Burnley strengthens Aguero's captaincy potential.

Clarets history

He scored three goals in his two home meetings with the Clarets in all competitions last season.

And his underlying statistics also highlight his major threat at the Etihad Stadium.

Aguero is averaging a shot on goal every 11.4 minutes at Man City's home ground.

At home, his totals of 25 shots and 18 shots inside the penalty area are both more than any other player in FPL.

Burnley's defensive frailties further his appeal.

They arrive having conceded 160 shots in 2018/19, more than any other side.

Sterling challenge

However, Aguero's team-mate Raheem Sterling (£11.1m) should also merit strong consideration.

The winger underlined his form with two goals for England against Spain in midweek.

Sterling has averaged 10.7 FPL points in home matches this season.

Outscoring Aguero

Indeed, he has outscored Aguero in all three home fixtures they have started together.

Owned by 50.7 per cent, the Argentinian will be the popular pick.

But Sterling's 6.3 per cent ownership makes him an outstanding differential for the Burnley encounter.

What the experts say

Holly Shand (@FFCommunity): There are plenty of captain options this week, but it has to be Aguero for those wanting a safe pick. His home form is excellent, he’s had a rest over the international break and his visitors, Burnley, have conceded more shots than any other side.

Tom WGTA (@WGTA_FPL): With so much uncertainty post-international break, I'm going for the conservative captaincy. There's no better candidate than Aguero with that cautious approach in mind.

Ben Crabtree (@FC_CrabDogg): Knowing how FPL works, Harry Kane (£12.5m) will probably outscore Aguero this week but it just makes too much sense to captain the Man City striker. If I buy Sterling I could be tempted to make a late switch.

Lee, FPL Family (@FPLFamily): I fancy Liverpool to go back to the 'heavy-metal' style of play that saw plenty of goals at the start of last season. However, with doubts over the fitness of Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) and Sadio Mane (£9.9m), I’ll be waiting for Jurgen Klopp's press conference before making my decision. If it’s bad news, then a rested Aguero will take the armband by default.

Sam, FPL Family (@FPLFamily): With favourable home fixtures for Liverpool and Man City, their assets seem the go-to armband options. With no international duties over the break, a refreshed Aguero is my preferred pick.

Paul Gee (@fplPaulGee): Aguero is the obvious choice this week. However, Sterling is still a huge differential with a great home record. He is still full of confidence from his England heroics, too!

Jay Egersdorff (@JEgersdorff): Aguero and Salah are the obvious picks but sadly I have neither! My Kane move last week has a bulk of cash tied up and I was disappointed he didn't score over the international break. Kane is a differential but with the obvious pick being Aguero, I reckon it may be too risky for me to captain the Spurs man.
