How FPL assists are awarded: Final pass

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) has been the top Fantasy Premier League captain pick in each of the first two Gameweeks.

Salah is also the most-owned player, sitting in 54.4 per cent of squads.

He has rewarded that faith with eight points at home to West Ham United and a nine-point haul at Crystal Palace.

This weekend’s home match with Brighton & Hove Albion boosts his chances of further goals and assists.

Liverpool scored nine goals in their two meetings with the Seagulls last season, including a 4-0 win at Anfield in Gameweek 38.

Mane man

However, the case for fellow Reds midfielder Sadio Mane (£9.8m) is growing.

He has outscored his team-mate in each of the first two Gameweeks.

Mane's tallies of 16 and 10 points respectively have made him the top-scoring player in FPL.

Yet it is Salah who has offered the greater threat.

He leads the Senegal international by 10 shots to six, although he has scored only once, compared with Mane's three goals.

In addition, Salah's four big chances are more than any other player and double that of Mane.

A big chance is regarded as a situation where the player receiving the pass is expected to score.

This indicates that Salah continues to find himself in excellent scoring positions.

Over 1.44m managers selected Salah as their Gameweek 2 captain, compared with Mane’s 189,000 backing.

Making the correct call in Gameweek 3 could be crucial should Liverpool maintain their impressive record against Brighton.

What the FPL experts say

Holly Shand (@FFCommunity_): "Mane may be outperforming Salah but luck has played its part. Two of his goals were in stoppage time. If you own both, go Salah!"

Tom (@WGTA_FPL): "Mane's been ace, but was lucky to get a return against Palace. I'm sticking with Mo, who's had "off matches" but still returned eight then nine points respectively. Imagine what'll happen if he shows up!"

Ash (@FPLHints): "Both Salah and Mane have shown form in the first two matches, but the Senegal international has already scored two more league goals than Salah and cannot be ignored."

Ben Crabtree (@FC_CrabDogg): "The type of match probably favours the faster feet in the box and poacher abilities of Salah."

Simon March (@MarchSimon): "It is not a Gameweek to overthink it. Mane has looked good but it is Salah all the way for me."

Lee Bonfield (@FPLFamily): "Mane’s goal against West Ham and last-minute breakaway goal against Palace suggest to me he’s been a little lucky so far. Salah has been a constant menace in both matches, had plenty of chances of his own and arguably should have more points. I am sticking with the Egyptian."

Jay Egersdorff (@JEgersdorff): "Simple one for me. I captained Salah in GW1 and GW2 and his consistent returns will mean he will retain the armband in GW3 too."
