To celebrate Brighton & Hove Albion v West Ham United being the 10,000th Premier League match, we asked past players to name their favourite.

Matt Holland

The Manchester derby at Old Trafford in February 2011 is not among the highest-scoring matches between the two rivals, but it stands out for Matt Holland because of one thing.

The former Ipswich Town and Charlton Athletic player was fortunate enough to see Wayne Rooney’s bicycle kick first-hand.

“I was actually working at the game and saw probably the best goal the Premier League has seen,” says Holland.

“The press box at United is almost halfway inside that half, where Rooney scored the goal, so I got an absolutely perfect view of it.”
