FPL Pod's 2024/25 awards: Best player, differential and more!

Following a sensational 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League season, Kelly Somers and the FPL Pod team are handing out some end-of-season awards and revealing the shortlist for an award inspired by journalist Julien Laurens which YOU can vote for.

Player of the Season

This one is very straightforward! Mohamed Salah collected more points in 2024/25 Fantasy than any player ever before in a single campaign. His final total of 344 smashed the previous record by an incredible 41 points.

“I think it's quite obvious that Mohamed Salah is the Player of the Season, isn't he?" says FPL expert Sam Bonfield. "Three hundred and forty-four points. That's 108, by the way, more than the next-best player in the game.

“To be honest, about 10 weeks ago, I was expecting to sit on this final pod and go, ‘What an unbelievable achievement by Salah. Not only has he broken the FPL record, he's absolutely smashed it. The first player ever to hit 400 FPL points.’

"It's a phenomenal season, but it does feel a little bit like, ‘Oh, that's a shame.' Because I'm not sure we'll ever get that close to having a player get us to 400 points again.”

Differential of the Season

There were plenty of candidates for this award, but it's Brentford's Yoane Wissa who gets the vote from the FPL Pod team, including Paris-born Julien Laurens.

“I mean, the winner has to be Paris-born and bred, really. I think that helps him massively," says Julien.

“That's why he's so good. That's why he's so handsome. And Yoane Wissa, I think, deserves massively the... Differential Player of the Season. Twenty goals, three assists and no penalties, by the way. So 20 goals without penalties when Salah scored nine penalties, when [Bryan] Mbeumo scored five pens, for example, is even a better achievement.

“It's 185 points for Wissa this season in FPL. It's remarkable really for what he's done for this Brentford team with his mate Mbeumo. So I think his price tag...I think is worth every single penny that you would have invested in.”

'Talent, Vision and Planning' award

Paying homage to the times when Julien has boasted about bringing in a player at the right time before they deliver lots of points (and remembering the times it hasn't gone so well!), you can vote for the player who you wish you'd owned over the course of the season.
