Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne were in scintillating form for Manchester City as the holders comfortably dispatched Luton Town 6-2 in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Haaland, who had only scored three goals in his last five appearances, was back to his clinical best at Kenilworth Road, scoring FIVE times. De Bruyne was equally as impressive as he assisted four of the Norwegian's strikes.

Luton gave City a scare when Jordan Clark's brace reduced the deficit from 3-0 to 3-2 but Haaland took matters into his own hands, netting two more before Mateo Kovacic ensured that City will be in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Elsewhere, AFC Bournemouth were shocked by Leicester City as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at home while Newcastle United needed penalties to beat Blackburn Rovers.

What do the results mean for Premier League fixtures?

Man City, Newcastle and Bournemouth's respective Matchweek 29 fixtures against Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers on the weekend of 16-17 March will now be postponed due to the former clubs' involvement in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Man City win entertaining contest

Man City named a strong team to face Luton with Kyle Walker, Bernardo Silva, De Bruyne, Haaland among the players to be named in the XI. Jack Grealish also returned after recovering from injury.

And the holders wasted no time in open the scoring with Haaland scoring in the third and 18th minute as he converted De Bruyne's cutback before then smashing the ball through Tim Krul's legs.

Haaland first goal

Haaland had two further chances to claim his hat-trick while De Bruyne was denied by Krul. City did suffer a blow though as Grealish was forced off with a suspected injury as Jeremy Doku came on in his place, but moments later Haaland completed his hat-trick.

Clark reduced the deficit in the 45th minute after producing a stunning 25-yard strike into the top-right corner and then he gave Luton hope seven minutes into the second half with a thumping finish from inside the penalty area.

Clark second goal

However, City stepped up a gear and three minutes later Haaland tapped in De Bruyne's square pass after Walker superbly found the Belgian.

Despite missing a large part of the season, De Bruyne has now registered 11 assists in only 12 matches across all competitions.

Haaland added a fifth when his low shot went through Krul as the Norwegian became the first player to score five times in an FA Cup match for a top-flight club since 1970, when Manchester United winger George Best netted six against Northampton.

Kovacic's long-range strike then flashed past the Luton 'keeper to end the scoring and continue City's pursuit of retaining the trophy.

Newcastle edge past Blackburn

Newcastle needed penalties to overcome Blackburn with the Magpies winning 4-3 in the shootout after a 1-1 draw at Ewood Park.

Anthony Gordon thought he had sent his side through after scoring in the 71st minute, but eight minutes later Sammie Szmodics converted from close range to send the tie beyond 90 minutes.

Both sides had chances to win in extra-time, however only penalties could decide a winner.

And Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka was the hero as he saved two spot-kicks to send the Magpies into the quarter-finals of the competition as they look to win their first major trophy since 1955.

Overall it was a positive evening for head coach Eddie Howe as he was able to reintroduce more players from injury, including Elliot Anderson, as his side seek to return to winning ways in the Premier League this Saturday when Newcastle take on Wolves.

Leicester shock Bournemouth

A sensational extra-time strike from Abdul Fatawu gave 2021 FA Cup winners Leicester a shock 1-0 win at Bournemouth.

Both sides struck the frame of the goal in normal time, as well as missing a host of clear chances.

And with time running out in the first period of extra-time Fatawu recieved the ball on the edge of the area and curled a shot into the top-right corner, which Bournemouth 'keeper Mark Travers could only get fingers to.

It was a disappointing night for Andoni Iraola's side, who are now winless in six matches across all competitions.

They will hope to end that winless run when they take on 19th-place Burnley this Sunday at Turf Moor.
