Henry: Bergkamp pushed everyone's boundaries

4 May 2021

Hall of Fame inductee praises attitude of former team-mate, who is among 23 nominees to join him

Inaugural inductee Thierry Henry says his former Arsenal team-mate Dennis Bergkamp led by example with an inspirational attitude and merits joining him in the Premier League Hall of Fame.

Iconic Dutch forward Bergkamp is among 23 nominees eligible to join the class of 2021, with fans invited to cast their vote and help select the remaining six inductees.

"Every day in training, he wanted to be the best," says Henry. "He was pushing everyone's boundaries because of the way he was in training. First in the building, last out."

As for Henry's fellow inaugural inductee Alan Shearer, it was Bergkamp's technical ability that marked him out as a special player.

"It looked at times too easy for some of these guys," says Shearer. "Dennis was one of those. The touch and the technique was ridiculous."
