Joshua Ajala has been named the Premier League 2 (PL2) Player of the Month for February.
The 19-year-old had a productive month, scoring two goals and providing three assists for West Ham United as they finished February with back-to-back victories in PL2.
“I feel like I’ve been in good form for a lot of the time, scoring goals for both the Under-18s and Under-21s over the last couple of seasons,” Ajala said on West Ham's website after winning the award.
“I want to keep scoring goals for the youth teams and hopefully that will give me the chance to do so for the first team.”
Ajala topped an eight-man shortlist that was selected by the Premier League's Football Development Panel.
The forward impressed in both a No 10 role and on the left wing, demonstrating his versatility by supplying goal contributions in different positions.
He started February with a goal and an assist in West Ham's 3-3 draw at Middlesborough. That performance led to him being an unused substitute in Nuno Espirito Santo's first-team squad for a 1-0 FA Cup win over Burton Albion.
The Hammers drew 1-1 with Leicester City without him, then suffered a defeat to Fulham in their next match upon his return. However, they bounced back with a 3-0 win against Crystal Palace where Ajala created a goal from left midfield.
Ajala starred in West Ham's final fixture of the month, where he scored the opener and claimed another assist in a 3-1 win at Leeds United.
His good form was rewarded in March as he signed a new contract with the Hammers until the summer of 2028.
