Forward tops fan poll for best Premier League performance in 19th round of matches

Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard has been voted the Premier League Player of the Matchweek for Matchweek 19.

The Belgium international was influential in his side's convincing 4-1 victory over Aston Villa, drilling home a first-time strike in the second half to put daylight between the sides and swing the momentum firmly in the hosts’ favour at Emirates Stadium.

Trossard then remained at the heart of Arsenal’s attacking flow, producing some sharp combination play in the build-up to Gabriel Jesus’ late goal as the Gunners powered to a statement win to end 2025 on top of the Premier League table.

In the last calendar year, no Arsenal player registered more Premier League goals, assists or total goal involvements than Trossard, underlining his growing importance in Mikel Arteta's title-chasing side.

This is the second time an Arsenal star has been named Player of the Matchweek, following the success of Eberechi Eze in Matchweek 12.

Trossard picked up 43 per cent of the fan vote, while his closest challenger, Leeds United defender James Justin had 15 per cent.  

The other nominees were Everton midfielder James Garner (13 per cent), Sunderland centre-back Nordi Mukiele (12 per cent), Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes (11 per cent) and West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta (six per cent).
