West Ham's Fernandes scores FASTEST goal of season so far

Mateus Fernandes celebrates his goal after 29 seconds of West Ham v Aston Villa

Hammers midfielder breaks the record set by Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike only 23 hours earlier

Mateus Fernandes scored the fastest goal of the 2025/26 Premier League season when West Ham United faced Aston Villa on Sunday 14 December.

West Ham midfielder Fernandes found the net after only 30 seconds at the London Stadium, to break the record that was set only 23 hours earlier by Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike when his opener against Brighton & Hove Albion was timed at 46 seconds.

The previous record holder before Ekitike held top spot for only two weeks; Newcastle United defender Malick Thiaw scored after only 52 seconds of the Magpies' match against Everton on 29 November. TWO goals were scored inside the first minute of matches on that day, as Phil Foden put Manchester City ahead against Leeds United after 59 seconds.

Indeed, five of the six fastest goals this season have come in the last 16 days, as Nottingham Forest defender Nikola Milenkovic put the ball in his own net after 83 seconds at Everton earlier this month.

The only other strike that arrived quicker than Milenkovic's own goal was Bryan Mbeumo's opener for Manchester United at Liverpool, timed at just 62 seconds.
