Gunners make versatile 21-year-old defender fifth acquisition of summer transfer window

Arsenal have signed defender Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia.

Mosquera, who can play at centre-back or right-back, has become Arsenal's fifth addition of the summer transfer window, following the arrival of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard and winger Noni Madueke, whilst the media continues to link the club with a move for Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres.

He will wear the No 3 shirt for Arsenal.

“It’s an opportunity that came up and I couldn’t let it pass me by. I’m joining a historic, massive club. When you arrive here with your family, you really feel the greatness of this place,” Mosquera said in his first Arsenal interview.

Mosquera’s career so far

Born on 27 June 2004 in Alicante, Spain, Mosquera joined Valencia’s youth team in 2016 at the age of 12 and progressed through to their reserve side in 2021.

He made his first-team debut in the Copa del Rey (the Spanish cup) in January 2022 aged 17 years, six months and 23 days, becoming the youngest centre-back in the club’s history.

Mosquera made his first LaLiga appearance that same month and has been a mainstay in Valencia’s defence for the past two seasons.

Overall, he has made 90 appearances across all competitions for Valencia.

Mosquera has also represented Spain at various youth levels up. He was also part of the squad that won a gold meal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

When could Mosquera feature for Arsenal?

Mosquera's first match for Arsenal could come in pre-season against Newcastle United on 27 July in Singapore.

The Gunners start their 2025/26 Premier League campaign at Manchester United on 17 August.
