Arsenal sign midfielder Norgaard from Brentford

Gunners make third acquisition of the summer as they bring in 31-year-old Dane

Arsenal have completed the signing of Brentford captain Christian Norgaard.

The 31-year-old Dane, who spent six seasons with the Bees, is the Gunners' third new arrival in the summer transfer window.

He has followed goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and midfielder Martin Zubimendi in joining Mikel Arteta's squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Arteta told Arsenal's official website: "We’re delighted to welcome Christian to Arsenal. He is an international player with a wealth of experience of the Premier League. He has proven leadership skills and a strong character which will be invaluable to our squad."

In an interview on Arsenal's website, Norgaard declared he was already looking forward to playing in the UEFA Champions League with his new club.

"Now, I get to hear the anthem and be a part of a Champions League campaign," said Norgaard.

"It's a childhood dream and something I didn't think would be possible. So it's something I'm really, really happy about."

Meanwhile, Brentford's director of football Phil Giles told the Bees' official website: "On behalf of everyone at Brentford, I’d like to thank Christian for everything he’s done for the club over the last six years.

"He has been a key player for us, played a big part in helping us retain our Premier League status for the last four years, and has been a fantastic captain over the last couple of seasons."

Norgaard's career so far

Norgaard was born on 10 March 1994 in Copenhagen, Denmark and started his career with Danish side Lyngby Boldklub before moving to Germany by joining Hamburger SV.

In 2013, he returned to his home country with Brondby IF where Norgaard spent five years and won the Danish Cup in 2017/18.

After a season in Italy with Fiorentina, Norgaard then moved to Brentford. In his second season there, 2020/21, he helped the Bees earn promotion to the Premier League for the first time. It marked their return to England's top flight after a 74-year absence.

Norgaard was named Brentford captain in the summer of 2023.

In total, the Dane played 196 times for the club in all competitions.

When could Norgaard feature for Arsenal?

Norgaard's first match for Arsenal could come in pre-season against AC Milan on 23 July in Singapore.

The Gunners then start their 2025/26 campaign at Manchester United on 17 August.
