2005: Milan Baros joins Aston Villa

Aston Villa signed Milan Baros from Liverpool.

The Czech striker, who had scored 19 Premier League goals during his time at Anfield, struck eight times in his debut season with Villa.

He made a total of 42 PL appearances for the club, netting nine times, before moving on to Lyon in January 2007.

He returned to the Premier League a year later, spending the second half of the 2007/08 season on loan with Portsmouth.

2008: Stoke City 3-2 Aston Villa

Mamady Sidibe’s stoppage-time winner against Aston Villa gave promoted Stoke City their first Premier League victory.

Liam Lawrence put the Potters ahead from the penalty spot but John Carew equalised. And, although Ricardo Fuller restored the hosts' advantage in the 80th minute, Martin Laursen promptly levelled the scores again.

Stoke were not to be denied though and, in the fourth minute of stoppage time, Sidibe got the final touch on Rory Delap’s long throw.

The result left both sides with three points from their opening two fixtures, but Aston Villa lay seventh on goal difference, eight places above Stoke.
