How Man City compare to greats: Leon Osman

We talked to four former Premier League players who faced three of the best teams of the Premier League era: Manchester United (1998/99), Arsenal (2003/04) and Chelsea (2004-06).

And we asked how those sides compared with the record-breaking 2017/18 champions Manchester City.

Chris Sutton

“When I think of Pep Guardiola’s City, you think of panache, passion, poise, poetry in motion,” says Sutton.

“They are a team of absolute beauty. When you think of what he’s developing, they’re going to be unstoppable for years to come.”

But the 1994/95 title-winner with Blackburn Rovers believes City have some way to go to match the achievements of United’s treble-winning team.

“When I think of the great United team of '99, I think, attack, attack, attack. A swashbuckling, exciting, never-beaten United.

"They were sensational. A joy to watch, but not to play against. The greatest team of all-time in my book.”
