The Tottenham Hotspur striker's winner was his 209th goal in the competition.

That is one more than the total achieved by Rooney, the legendary Everton and Manchester United forward and Premier League Hall of Fame inductee.

Kane, whose goal was his 100th at home in the Premier League, has reached 209 in only 317 appearances, while Rooney played 491 times overall in the Premier League for his total.

Kane's rate of 0.66 goals a match is bettered only by Sergio Aguero's 0.67.

The only player above Kane in the rankings is Alan Shearer, on 260 Premier League goals.

Meanwhile, Kane's 10th headed goal of the season has set a record for a single campaign, surpassing Duncan Ferguson's total of nine in 1997/98.

Kane is now on 26 Premier League goals for the season, his third-best total for a campaign. He scored 29 goals in 2016/17, and 30 the following season.

Kane has three more matches to try and beat his best tally, starting with a trip to Aston Villa next Saturday.
