Newcastle bombarded the Man Utd goal, having 22 shots to their opponents' six, but were three times denied by brilliant David De Gea saves, including a double stop on the goalline 15 minutes in.

Man Utd's only shot on target came in the 56th minute, from Antony, and their defence was eventually breached nine minutes later.

Alexander Isak played in Bruno Guimaraes and the Brazilian crossed for Allan Saint-Maximin to head back across goal for Joe Willock to score.

Newcastle sealed the win late on, with substitute Callum Wilson heading home from Kieran Trippier's free-kick to go some way to avenging their EFL Cup final defeat to the same opponents in February.

The result means Newcastle have still lost only once at home all season and moves them above Man Utd on goal difference.

Both teams have 50 points, one more than Tottenham Hotspur, who drop to fifth and have played a match more.

The Moroccan headed in from Thilo Kehrer's free-kick to lift West Ham from 19th all the way to 14th.

Buoyed by their late comeback draw against Tottenham Hotspur last time out, Southampton responded but could not make their extra possession and shots on target count.

Indeed, they might have salvaged a late point for the second successive match, but substitute Paul Onuachu's header smacked against the crossbar.

A fifth home match unbeaten means West Ham are a point above the bottom three and have a match in hand and better goal difference than all of their relegation rivals.

Southampton remain rooted to the foot of the table on 23 points, three behind 17th-placed Leeds United having played more matches than the six teams immediately above them.
