Jermain Defoe

Defoe became a fans' favourite thanks to his ability to score on a regular basis across eight spells at six different Premier League clubs.

His 162 Premier League goals are the ninth-highest in the competition’s history, including 91 in 276 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur. It was only at AFC Bournemouth that he did not reach double figures.

Defoe's poacher's instinct was matched by his ability to score spectacular goals, with 22 of his 162 strikes coming from outside of the box, 17 of which were for Spurs.

His superb hit from a narrow angle for AFC Bournemouth at Crystal Palace won the December 2017 Goal of the Month award. Sunderland fans will also remember with fondness his brilliant winning volley in the Tyne-Wear derby in April 2015.
