As part of commemorating the 75th anniversary of VJ (Victory over Japan) Day, on 15 August, the Premier League Education Department invited Academy players to write a haiku, a Japanese short poem, about World War II and film themselves reading it.

Players from nine clubs have written a haiku and then folded the paper into an origami peace crane as a symbol of friendship with Japan.

The players’ paper cranes are being collected by Big Ideas, who will assemble them into a paper wreath.

Schoolchildren and members of the public can also send their cranes to Big Ideas, to be added to the wreath.

That wreath will be sent to the British Embassy in Japan to be laid at the Children’s Peace Monument in the Hiroshima Memorial Peace Park.
