Crystal Palace have offered the use of their Selhurst Park stadium to London Ambulance Service crew, giving them a place to rest while on duty during the coronavirus pandemic.

Up to 180 paramedics and non-paramedic staff who work locally have been invited to recuperate in designated space at the ground during the day, with hot meals and refreshments being provided by club chefs.

"The support from Crystal Palace during this challenging time is very much appreciated by all our hard-working teams across Croydon," Steve Markham, location group manager Croydon for the London Ambulance Service, told the club's official website.

"Their generous offer of a hot meal and place to rest will certainly help to make a difference as we respond to those who need us."

Palace have joined a number of Premier League clubs in making their facilities available to the NHS, with Manchester City and Watford also making their stadiums a place where staff can relax during their breaks.

"We are delighted to be able to offer assistance to the London Ambulance Service crew, who are saving lives in our community," said Sharon Lacey, Palace's director of operations.

"Providing them with somewhere to rest and a hot meal is the least we can do in the circumstances."

Palace have also helped to distribute 3,000 items of protective equipment to NHS workers, while their chefs are creating healthy meals for frontline staff in addition to the Ambulance Service.

As well as this, the club are preparing 1,500 meals at their ground each week, which charity partner City Harvest have been delivering to some of the most vulnerable, socially isolated and at-risk members of the community.
