Manager Bio

Claudio Ranieri was most recently the head coach of Watford and is one of 11 managers to win the Premier League.

From September 2000 to June 2004, Ranieri managed Chelsea and guided them to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals and an FA Cup Final in his spell at Stamford Bridge.

Prior to becoming head coach at Chelsea, the Italian managed Cagliari to successive promotions, reaching Serie A in 1989/90 before taking charge of Napoli the following season.

Ranieri dropped back to Serie B to take charge of Fiorentina and immediately guided the Viola to top-flight Italian football and the Florence side picked up the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italia by the time he left in 1997.

The Italian moved to Spain where he won the UEFA Intertoto Cup and Copa del Rey with Valencia in 1998/99, before Ranieri briefly took charge of Atletico Madrid, but he left before the end of the 1999/00 season.

Ranieri would not win another trophy until the UEFA Super Cup in 2004 during his second stint at Valencia, which followed four seasons in the Premier League with Chelsea.

Spells in Italy with Parma, Juventus, Roma and Inter Milan preceded success in France with Monaco.

After winning Ligue 2 as manager of Monaco in 2012/13, Ranieri then guided the club to second in Ligue 1 in the next campaign.

A short spell as Greece's national manager ended in November 2014, but it was not long before the Roma-born coach returned to management when he was announced as Leicester City manager ahead of the 2015/16 season.

In his first season as the Foxes' manager, he guided the pre-season relegation candidates to their first Premier League trophy - winning the Manager of the Year accolade.

Ranieri has won the Manager of the Month award five times, including three in his title-winning campaign.

Despite taking Leicester through to the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League as group winners in their first foray in the competition he parted company with the club in February 2017 after five Premier League victories all season left the Foxes a place and a point above the relegation zone.

The Italian would return to management ahead of the 2017/18 season with French side Nantes, but left the club at the end of the season.

In November 2018, Ranieri was announced as Slavisa Jokanovic's replacement at Fulham, however his time at Craven Cottage ended on 28 February 2019 with the club 19th in the table.

Ranieri returned to Roma after eight years in March 2019 in a deal until the end of the season.

He then signed for Sampdoria in October of the same year, lifting the Serie A side from last place to 15th at the end of 2019/20. The Italian departed the club at the end of his contract in the summer of 2021.

On 4 October 2021, Watford announced Ranieri as their new head coach.

He led the Hornets to three-goal wins over Everton and Manchester United in his first five matches, but he left the club on 24 January 2022 after an eight-match winless run.
