Poet Joseph Coelho and Lauren Child, the author of Charlie and Lola, have come up with tips that can help your poem stand out.

Both are on the PL Writing Stars judging panel and offer some last-minute advice.

"Write from the heart," says Child. "Write about something that means something to you. Don't think about how someone else does it."

One of Coelho's tips is to encourage you to use your senses to take in the world around you.

"Can you hear anything, smell anything?" he asks. "All these senses can be used to spice up your poetry"

Children aged 5-11 are able to write poetry in all its forms and this year the competition is based on the theme of diversity.

Teachers have until Friday, 21 December to submit their pupils' work, with the winners announced in March 2019.
