Everton and Brighton & Hove Albion opened their Premier League International Cup campaign with a 2-2 draw at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre.
Goals from Brighton's Ben Barclay and James Tilley overhauled Bassala Sambou's first-half penalty for Everton but Ellis Simms continued his fine form for the Under-18s with a late strike to ensure the spoils were shared.
After Brighton spurned several chances Everton led when Jordan Davies pulled Josh Bowler's shirt and Sambou converted the spot-kick in the 25th minute.
The hosts levelled on the hour when Barclay met Markus Suttner's cross with a firm header. Six minutes later Brighton were ahead when Tilley turned in Suttner's free-kick.
But Everton substitute Simms, who has scored eight goals in five Under-18 fixtures, fired into the roof of the net after hesitant Albion defending with a quarter of an hour remaining.
The two sides share the early lead in Group D with Bayern Munich and Benfica yet to play.
