Swansea City have announced the signing of Alfie Mawson for an undisclosed fee from Barnsley.
The 22-year-old defender has signed a four-year deal and is the club's sixth senior signing of the summer after Leroy Fer (Queens Park Rangers), Mike van der Hoorn (Ajax), Mark Birighetti (Newcastle Jets), Fernando Llorente (Sevilla) and Borja Baston (Atletico Madrid).
Mawson began at Reading before loans in the non-League. He also played for Brentford and had a loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers in 2014/15 before impressing last season as Barnsley win the Football League Trophy and promotion to the Championship via the play-offs.
"Coming here is a fantastic opportunity for me," Mawson told swanseacity.net. "Two-and-a-half or three years ago I was playing in the Conference.
"It’s a big leap, a big step up for me, even from the Championship, but it’s an opportunity I am going to try to grab with both hands."
