For some players a big transfer fee can bring added pressure to life at a new club, but Alan Shearer says James Maddison should use it a platform to shine.

Leicester City signed the talented 21-year-old from Norwich City in the summer and, ahead of Maddison's home debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, Shearer says the midfielder should take the expectation from his price tag as a compliment.

"I always looked at the point that if someone is prepared to pay that amount of money for you then that should in itself give you confidence and belief that you belong on the big stage," says Shearer, who himself became the most expensive player in the world when he joined Newcastle United in 1996.

"It’s a huge fee for him. If he’s not fazed by that, if he can take that in the right way and have the confidence to go out and believe he has the ability to fulfil that potential, then he’s a goalscoring midfielder and he should be a good addition to that Leicester squad.”
