West Ham United will be bidding to become only the second club to open a new stadium with a Premier League win when they take on AFC Bournemouth at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Four clubs have previously moved to new grounds while in the Premier League but only one, Derby County, opened with a win. The Rams beat Barnsley 1-0 in their first league match at the iPro Stadium in the 1997/98 season.

Since then, three clubs have opened new stadiums but failed to start with a victory.

West Ham will be hoping to avoid a repeat of Southampton’s debut at St Mary’s Stadium, when they suffered a 2-0 defeat by Chelsea in the 2001/02 campaign.

Manchester City started life at the Etihad Stadium with a 1-1 draw against Portsmouth in 2003/04, while it was an identical scoreline for Arsenal in their first league match at Emirates Stadium against Aston Villa three years later.
