1999: Stephane Henchoz joins Liverpool

Stephane Henchoz joined Liverpool from Blackburn Rovers and enjoyed a six-year stay at Anfield.

The Swiss defender formed a centre-back partnership with Sami Hyypia thyat proved to be an important part in Liverpool’s historic treble, when they won the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup in 2000/01.

Henchoz made 135 Premier League appearances for the Reds before joining Wigan Athletic in 2005.

2009: Steve Bruce named Sunderland manager

Steve Bruce was appointed Sunderland manager after leaving Wigan Athletic.

It was his third Premier League role as a manager, having led Birmingham City to the top-flight in 2001/02 and enjoying five PL seasons there before moving to Wigan in November 2007.

In his first season at the Stadium of Light, he guided Sunderland to 13th place, before leading the Black Cats to 10th in 2010/11, their first top-half Premier League finish since 2000/01.

Bruce departed in November 2011 after two wins from his first 13 matches that season.
