2004: Chelsea appoint Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho arrived in the Premier League when he succeeded Claudio Ranieri as Chelsea manager on a three-year contract.

Having previously led Porto to UEFA Champions League glory, the Portuguese claimed he was "The Special One" in his first press conference at Chelsea, and he lived up to the billing.

The Blues won their first PL title with a record total of 95 points in his first season, and they also won the League Cup in the same campaign.

Mourinho’s Chelsea defended the Premier League trophy in 2005/06, and won both the League Cup and FA Cup the following season before departing in 2007.
