2004: Portsmouth 4-3 Fulham

Yakubu struck a hat-trick as Portsmouth edged past Fulham in a seven-goal thriller at Fratton Park.

Pompey were 3-0 up in the 28th minute after Eyal Berkovic's opener and two goals from Yakubu, the first coming from the penalty spot.

However, Andrew Cole and Luis Boa Morte hit back before the break, scoring in quick succession and narrowing the deficit to a single goal.

Yakubu gave Portsmouth some breathing room as he completed his treble in the 72nd minute, but Carlos Bocanegra promptly responded at the other end, giving the home side a nervy finish as they clung on to a narrow victory.

Pompey climbed to 11th with four points from their opening three matches, leapfrogging Fulham, who dropped to 13th. The Cottagers also had four points but had played an extra fixture and had an inferior goal difference.
