Mikel Arteta scored twice to reignite Everton’s hopes of European football and leave Hull City in the relegation zone.
The convincing win, which also featured strikes from Landon Donovan, Jack Rodwell and an own goal from Richard Garcia, moved Everton up to ninth, seven points off the top six.
The defeat meant Hull were in 18th on 24 points.
John Terry’s header and Frank Lampard’s double, including a penalty, gave Chelsea victory at Blackpool.
The home team did get an 86-th-minute consolation through Jason Puncheon but it was too little, too late for Ian Holloway’s promoted side.
The win left Chelsea fourth, with 51 points. Blackpool were in 15th on 32 points, but only a point off the bottom three.
