1996: Frank Leboeuf and Roberto Di Matteo join Chelsea

Chelsea completed the double signing of Frank Leboeuf and Roberto Di Matteo.

Leboeuf, who was signed from French club Strasbourg, made 144 PL appearances for the club, scoring 17 goals and keeping 48 clean sheets during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Di Matteo arrived from Serie A club Lazio and made his mark by scoring the winner against Middlesbrough on his home debut.

He went on to make 119 PL appearances as a player and would later return as manager to guide the Blues to victory in the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League.

1998: Jaap Stam joins Manchester United

Centre-back Jaap Stam joined Manchester United from PSV Eindhoven and went on to become one of the best defenders in the Premier League, helping his side to three consecutive Premier League titles.

During his stay at Old Trafford, the Netherlands international made 79 PL appearances and also helped his side lift an FA Cup, the UEFA Champions League and an Intercontinental Cup.

He was also voted into the Overseas Team of the Decade at the Premier League 10 Seasons Awards.
