Brighton & Hove Albion completed a 3-0 home victory over Everton to reach the quarter-finals of the Premier League Cup.

First-half goals by Jiri Skalak (pictured) and Aaron Connolly put Simon Rusk’s team in control against the reigning PL2 champions, and Viktor Gyokeres struck late on at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre.

Everton might have taken the lead on 23 minutes only for Shayne Lavery to shoot wide, and the Blues were behind within five minutes, when Skalak latched on to George Cox’s pass to score.

Connolly doubled the advantage from close range seven minutes later, and he turned provider four minutes from time, teeing up Gyokeres to round off a happy day for the Seagulls.

The win extended Albion's unbeaten run in all competitions to 11 matches.
