Middlesbrough strengthened their promotion prospects with a 3-2 win over Reading at Adams Park.

The visitors took the lead on 27 minutes when Mikael Soisalo scored from close range.

That lead lasted barely two minutes, though, as Tyler Frost levelled with a low shot from the edge of the area.

Tyrone O’Neill, pictured, restored Boro’s lead four minutes after the interval following good approach play from Robbie Tinkler, and the visitors went 3-1 up when Hayden Coulsen took advantage of a defensive error on 79 minutes.

Reading pulled a goal back with three minutes to go when Ramarni Medford-Smith wriggled past his markers to tee up Ade Shokunbi, but Boro held out for the win.

The victory means Boro leapfrog the Royals into third place with 32 points, four behind Division 2 leaders Blackburn Rovers.

Reading are two points further back in fourth, having played one match more than Middlesbrough.
