Derby County moved up to sixth place in Division 1 after completing a surprise 5-1 victory over West Ham United at London Stadium.

With new first-team manager David Moyes looking on from the stands the Hammers were hopeful of closing to within a point of leaders Liverpool.

But they got off to the worst possible start when Offrande Zanzala scored after just 28 seconds.

Luke Thomas doubled the Rams’ lead on 21 minutes, and his shot ricocheted off the crossbar and then Zanzala to make it 3-0 eight minutes before half-time.

Early in the second half Charles Vernam and Jayden Bogle scored from rebounds before Grady Diangana produced a spectacular consolation goal.

The win lifts Derby to within two points of fourth-placed West Ham.
