Liam McAlinden and Matt Jay scored as Exeter City won 2-0 at Hull City in their opening Group H tie at North Ferriby.

McAlinden (pictured above) beat the offside trap and lifted the ball over Will Mannion for the Grecians' opener in the first period.

Jay clinched the victory after the break when he turned in Kyle Edwards' cross.

The group resumes next week with Exeter travelling to Sunderland on Thursday 2 November and Hull facing Brighton & Hove Albion at the Seagulls' Performance Centre the following night.
