Wayne Rooney's late penalty gave Everton an important point at Brighton & Hove Albion.

The home side looked to have sealed the win when Anthony Knockaert fired home from a Pascal Gross pass on 82 minutes.

Izzy Brown then forced a great save from Everton's Jordan Pickford before Bruno caught Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the area and Rooney kept his cool from the spot.

Brighton's Mat Ryan, who saved well from Idrissa Gueye in the first half, then made a superb double stop to keep Everton at bay in the closing moments.

Brighton remain in 14th place, with eight points from their eight matches, while Everton are in 16th on the same total.
