What’s new in 2025/26 Fantasy: Changes to Bonus Points System

See the tweaks that have been made to the system that decides who gets extra points from matches

The Scout explains the key changes to the Bonus Points System for 2025/26 Fantasy Premier League.

The Bonus Points System (BPS) is an important element of Fantasy, as it helps determine the allocation of bonus points awarded in each match.

The BPS utilises a range of statistics supplied by Opta that capture actions on the pitch, to create a performance score for every player.

The players with the top three BPS in a given match receive bonus points - three points to the highest-scoring player, two to the second best and one to the third.

Bonus point ties are resolved as follows:

- If there is a tie for first place, Players 1 & 2 will receive 3 points each and Player 3 will receive 1 point.
- If there is a tie for second place, Player 1 will receive 3 points and Players 2 and 3 will receive 2 points each.
- If there is a tie for third place, Player 1 will receive 3 points, Player 2 will receive 2 points and Players 3 & 4 will receive 1 point each.

For 2025/26 Fantasy, the following changes have been made.

Goalkeeper saves

In previous seasons, goalkeepers would earn two points in the BPS for each save they made.

This season, however, the shot location will be the determining factor. A goalkeeper will now earn THREE points in the BPS if the shot was taken from inside the penalty area or TWO points in the BPS if the shot is outside the box.

A penalty save will result in a minimal reduction from nine points in the BPS to eight this season. Added to the three BPS for saving a shot that was taken from inside the box, this gives a gives a total of 11BPS for such an action.

Goalline clearances

To recognise the importance of a goalline clearance, and how crucial it could be to a match result, a player will now earn NINE points in the BPS, as opposed to THREE points last season.

Penalty goals

A new “Penalty goals scored” metric has been introduced to differentiate from other goals scored.

A player will earn 12 points in the BPS for scoring a penalty, REGARDLESS of his position in Fantasy. In previous seasons, forwards earned 24 points, midfielders earned 18 and defenders earned 12BPS for scoring a penalty.

Those latter numbers still apply to all non-penalty goals scored in 2025/26, so there is no change there.

Successful tackles

The metric used to judge tackles has been changed to increase the likelihood of players being rewarded in the BPS and getting bonus points.

The two BPS points previously awarded for each “Successful Tackles (net)” statistic - which was the total of "Tackles Won" minus "Tackles Lost" – has been simplified.

This season, each "Tackle Won" in a match will be rewarded with two BPS points.
