Jordan Henderson returns to Premier League with Brentford

Premier League title winner with Liverpool joins west London club on a two-year deal

Brentford have signed Jordan Henderson from Ajax, their fifth arrival of the summer transfer window.

The former Liverpool midfielder and Premier League champion has agreed to a two-year contract and returns to the top flight after a two-season absence.

“When I spoke to [head coach] Keith [Andrews] a few times, he was very good and very honest, and he’s excited to get started as well. He was another big reason why I wanted to come and try to help the club keep moving forward,” Henderson said in his first interview with Brentford.

Henderson's career so far

Born in Sunderland, England on 17 June 1990, Henderson joined Sunderland's academy at the age of eight and progressed through the ranks before his departure to Liverpool in the summer of 2011.

Henderson spent 12 years at Anfield and became club captain in 2015, replacing Steven Gerrard.

He helped them lift seven major honours including the UEFA Champions League in 2018/19 and the Premier League title in 2019/20, Liverpool's first and their first top-flight success in 30 years.

After 492 appearances in all competitions, Henderson departed Liverpool at the end of the 2022/23 season.

For England, Henderson has been capped 84 times and was part of the squads that reached the semi-final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and final of the 2020 European Championships.

When could Henderson make his Brentford debut?

Henderson could make his first Brentford appearance in pre-season against Gil Vicente on 25 July.

The Bees begin their Premier League campaign away to Nottingham Forest on 17 August.
