Pundits pick their best player, manager, goal, signing, match, moment and biggest surprise of the 2023/24 Premier League season.
Best player
Alan Shearer: Phil Foden. What a talent. Magnificent. At times he was unplayable, and he's deservedly been named the Player of the Season. Six Premier League titles at the age of 23, wow!
Shaun Wright-Phillips: Foden. He's been consistent all season and he’s added goals and assists to his play now. What a player.
Michael Owen: Foden.
Karen Carney: Foden. How Manchester City have leaned on him. He has delivered with so many key goals and assists.
Don Hutchison: Declan Rice.
Leon Osman: Foden. Class. City's best player.
Tim Sherwood: Rodri. A manager's dream.
Peter Schmeichel: Foden.
Best manager
Wright-Phillips: Unai Emery or Pep Guardiola. Pep for obvious reasons as it’s been another unbelievable season for City. But the job Emery has done for Villa is nothing short of a miracle. Villa getting UEFA Champions League was unthinkable!
Shearer: Guardiola. It really couldn't be anyone else, could it? He knows how to get the very best out of his players, every week, every season. Four consecutive Premier League titles is testament to that.
Sherwood: Emery. Massively overachieved with a fourth-placed finish.
Osman: Sean Dyche. He dealt with so much.
Hutchison: Sean Dyche.
Owen: Emery.
Schmeichel: Emery.
Carney: Guardiola. With a fourth title in a row, it’s hard not to pick him!
Best goal
Osman: Alejandro Garnacho v Everton. Wow.
Wright-Phillips: Mac Allister's strike from outside the box for Liverpool v Fulham. He hit it so beautifully! Watch
Sherwood: Ivan Toney’s free-kick when he moved the ball v Nottingham Forest. Watch
Shearer: Garnacho.
Hutchison: Kaoru Mitoma’s dribble and finish against Wolves. Watch
Owen: Garnacho v Everton.
Schmeichel: Garnacho’s overhead kick against Everton.
Carney: Garnacho at Everton.
Best signing
Shaun Wright-Phillips: Cole Palmer. I really rated him at City but he’s injected that extra spark in the Chelsea team and has been a complete breath of fresh air for the club. I’ve been particularly impressed with his consistency, but also the calmness and maturity he brings when he's on the pitch.
Peter Schmeichel: Josko Gvardiol to Man City.
Osman: Declan Rice, with Mohammed Kudus and Palmer close behind.
Karen Carney: Palmer. Nobody expected such an impact. Where would Chelsea be without him?
Tim Sherwood: Palmer. Outstanding numbers and consistent performances in an inconsistent team.
Michael Owen: Palmer.
Don Hutchison: Rice to Arsenal.
Alan Shearer: Palmer.
Best match
Wright-Phillips: Chelsea 4-4 Man City. The game had everything, and of course it was my two ex-teams which made it even better!
Osman: Chelsea 4-3 Man Utd. It just beats Wolves v Man Utd for late drama.
Carney: Chelsea 4-4 Man City. Unreal game.
Hutchison: Chelsea 4-4 Man City.
Owen: Chelsea 4-4 Man City.
Favourite moment
Wright-Phillips: Villa beating Man City. How well they played was a huge statement.
Schmeichel: When Rasmus Hojlund scored his first Premier League goal.
Sherwood: Luton Town’s Tom Lockyer walking round the pitch at Kenilworth Road after his recovery from a cardiac arrest.
Hutchison: Jurgen Klopp’s last game as Liverpool manager.
Osman: Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s Merseyside derby header. Reminded me of "Big Dunc" [Everton legend Duncan Ferguson] and it secured a first home derby win since 2010.
Owen: Can’t pick a single moment but a highlight has been Cole Palmer’s emergence.
Carney: It’s always the start of the season as we have so much to look forward to!
Biggest surprise
Wright-Phillips: Phil Foden and Cole Palmer. The goal involvements they had were amazing.
Sherwood: How poor Man Utd were in the league.
Carney: Villa getting Champions League. The manager has done an incredible job.
Hutchison: Everton going into the last few weeks of the season completely stress-free.
Owen: Dominic Solanke scoring 19 Premier League goals.
Schmeichel: How poor Man Utd’s Premier League season was.
Osman: Cole Palmer. What a season.
