Extra Champions League place: Premier League hopes of fifth spot ended

Manchester City eased past Newcastle United to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup for a record sixth season running with a 2-0 victory at Etihad Stadium, while Wolverhampton Wanderers were knocked out of the quarter-finals after conceding twice in stoppage time to Coventry City.

Lucky Silva

Bernardo Silva was the hero for Man City, the cup holders, with two first-half goals, both deflected.

Pep Guardiola made five changes to the side who drew 1-1 against Liverpool. Stefan Ortega replaced the injured Ederson while Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol entered the defence, replacing Nathan Ake and John Stones. Mateo Kovacic replaced the injured Kevin de Bruyne, while Jeremy Doku started over Julian Alvarez, who dropped to the bench.

Newcastle made two changes, with Jamaal Lascelles and Jacob Murphy replacing the injured Tino Livramento and Miguel Almiron as Eddie Howe played a back five.

Silva opened the scoring in the 13th minute, dribbling into the box from the right before firing a shot that deflected in off Dan Burn, wrongfooting Martin Dubravka.

The Portuguese midfielder doubled the lead with another deflected shot in the 31st minute, this time Sven Botman the unfortunate Newcastle player who diverted in Silva’s curling shot.

The result means that Man City’s match against Tottenham Hotspur in Matchweek 34 on 20 April will be postponed.

Simms' City stun Wolves

Haji Wright struck a sensational winner in the TENTH minute of stoppage time as Wolves' hopes of a first FA Cup semi-final in five years were ended by Championship side Coventry with a stunning 3-2 win.

In an incredible encounter at Molineux, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Hugo Bueno looked to have booked Wolves' trip to Wembley with goals in the last nine minutes of normal time to overturn Ellis Simms' opener for Coventry.

But in a breathtaking finale, former Everton striker Simms added his second in the seventh minute of stoppage time to level before US international Wright fired the Sky Blues into the semi-finals with virtually the last kick of the match.

Gary O'Neil had made two changes to the side who had started last weekend's 2-1 win over Fulham, with Toti and Tommy Doyle coming in for injured duo Pedro Neto and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde. With Hwang Hee-chan also ruled out, 19-year-old Nathan Fraser kept his place up front.

Wolves will now have to pick themselves up and lift their hopes of European football next season when they return to Premier League action on Saturday 30 March, another West Midlands derby at Aston Villa.

The two sides shared the points when they met in the reverse fixture, a 1-1 draw at Molineux in October.

Sunday's FA Cup action

The FA Cup action continues on Sunday with a mouthwatering tie in store when Manchester United host Liverpool at Old Trafford from 15:30 GMT.

League leaders Liverpool will want to stay on course for a quadruple by beating Erik ten Hag's United, having already lifted the Carabao Cup and booked their place in the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals.

Before then, Chelsea host Leicester City in a match kicking off at 12:45 GMT.

When is the semi final draw?

The semi-final draw will take place on Sunday 17 March after the Liverpool v Manchester United match.
