Jarrod Bowen scored his first Premier League hat-trick as West Ham United ended a six-match winless Premier League run with a 4-1 derby thumping of Brentford.

Bowen's quick-fire opening two goals - scored with just two minutes and 13 seconds between them - put the Hammers 2-0 up after seven minutes before Neal Maupay halved the deficit after 13 minutes.

England international Bowen became the first West Ham player to score a Premier League hat-trick at London Stadium with a smart 63rd-minute header, and a superb Emerson Palmieri strike made it 4-1 before substitute Yoane Wissa netted Brentford's second.

How the match unfolded

Lucas Paqueta returned for West Ham, making his first appearance since 7 January, and was one of three changes made by West Ham manager David Moyes. Tomas Soucek came in for the suspended Kalvin Phillips, while Dinos Mavropanos replaced Nayef Aguerd in central defence.

For Brentford, Thomas Frank also made three changes to the side beaten 1-0 by Manchester City last time out. Mads Roerslev, Vitaly Janelt and Wissa made way for Keane Lewis-Potter, Mathias Jensen and Maupay.

Bowen got West Ham off to a flying start after five minutes, firing in off the inside of the post from Emerson's pass for his first Premier League goal since 23 December.

Moments later West Ham were in dreamland when Bowen added his second of the match with a neat finish from 10 yards after Vladimir Coufal had played him in.

It was the eighth goal Brentford had conceded in the first 15 minutes of Premier League matches this season, more than any other team.

The Bees responded swiftly, and Maupay pulled a goal back from Lewis-Potter's reverse pass for his 13th Premier League goal of the season, and fifth in seven top-flight appearances against West Ham.

This was also the earliest three goals had been scored in a Premier League match in 2023/24.

Both sides had further chances in an end-to-end first half, the best of which fell to the Hammers, with both Mohammed Kudus and Paqueta firing wide from good positions.

Bowen completed his hat-trick with a deft header from Kudus's inviting delivery after 63 minutes before Emerson lifted the roof off the London Stadium with a fourth goal just six minutes later, taking a touch and smacking an unstoppable 20-yarder into the top corner.

Brentford's Wissa set up a nervy finale with a splendid second goal, running on to a through-ball and curling a shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area.

West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola made a flying save to keep out Ivan Toney's header and then goalscorer Emerson blocked another shot from the Brentford striker as the Bees tried in vain to find a way back.

West Ham move up to eighth spot following their first Premier League win of the calendar year. Brentford drop to 16th spot on 25 points, five points clear of the relegation zone.
