Sheffield United moved off the bottom of the table after securing a 1-1 draw at 10-man Brighton & Hove Albion.

How the match unfolded

Roberto De Zerbi made six changes from the side that beat Ajax 2-0 in the UEFA Europa League, with Evan Ferguson absent and Kaoru Mitoma dropping to the bench.

After scoring in midweek, Simon Adingra struck again to put Brighton in front after six minutes.

The Ivorian drove infield from the left flank, playing a one-two with Facundo Buonanotte, before hitting a low shot that bounced in off a post.

Half-time substitute Mitoma forced a save from Wes Foderingham on 61 minutes as Brighton pressed for the decisive second goal.

But the home side were reduced to 10 men in the 69th minute, with Mahmoud Dahoud dismissed for a dangerous tackle on Ben Osborn.

Sheff Utd took full advantage of the extra man, equalising five minutes later after Adam Webster inadvertently turned Jayden Bogle's cross into his own net.

The Blades move up to 19th on five points, above Burnley on goal difference, four points adrift of 17th-placed AFC Bournemouth.

Brighton, now without a victory in six league matches, their longest winless run under De Zerbi, drop to eighth on 19 points.

Did you know?

Brighton have both scored and conceded in their opening 12 Premier League matches this season. The last side to do that in their opening 12 top-flight matches of a season were Liverpool in 1966/67.

After beating Wolves and drawing today, Sheffield United have avoided defeat in back-to-back Premier League matches for the first time since July 2020.

Three of Sheffield United's 10 goals in the Premier League this season have been own goals, with no side benefiting from more own goals so far this season.

This was Brighton’s 240th Premier League match today, and only the second time they’ve both scored an own goal and had a player sent off in the same match.

Mahmoud Dahoud was sent off in a match in Europe’s big five leagues for just the second time in his career, on what was his 170th such appearance.

Facundo Buonanotte assisted Simon Adingra’s opener for Brighton, only the third time two players aged 21 or under have combined for a Premier League goal for the Seagulls, after Alexis Mac Allister and Aaron Connolly in October 2020 and Julio Enciso and Levi Colwill in May 2023.
