Arteta, who spent three-and-a-half years as assistant coach at City before taking charge of Arsenal, will be hoping for a first Premier League win over his mentor.

The Arsenal boss has never beaten Guardiola in the Premier League, the only team in the competition he has failed to get the better of as a manager, with City victorious in all seven top-flight meetings between the pair.

Across all competitions the two have faced each other 10 times, with Arteta emerging victorious in the most recent meeting in August to lift the FA Community Shield and will aim to claim three points for the first time that will send his team above the leaders heading into the international break.

Here we look at all 10 head-to-heads.

17 Jun 2020: Man City 3-0 Arsenal (PL)

Guardiola came out on top in his first meeting with Arteta, as the two sides played their first match following the pandemic putting the season on hold.

Raheem Sterling scored the opener in first-half stoppage time and Arsenal were reduced to 10 men shortly after the break, as substitute David Luiz was sent off.

Kevin De Bruyne converted the resulting penalty before Phil Foden wrapped up the three points with a late third.

18 Jul 2020: Arsenal 2-0 Man City (FA Cup)

Arteta would not have to wait long to even the score against his mentor as Arsenal eliminated Man City at the semi-final stage of the FA Cup.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted twice to send the Gunners through, before they went on to beat Chelsea in the final.

17 Oct 2020: Man City 1-0 Arsenal (PL)

In their first encounter of the 2020/21 season, City would edge to a narrow home win thanks to another Sterling goal.

His strike in the 23rd minute helped extend the host's winning run of Premier League matches to 13, while it was a seventh straight league victory over Arsenal.

22 Dec 2020: Arsenal 1-4 Man City (EFL Cup)

For the fourth and final time in 2020, the two sides came up against each other, this time in the EFL Cup quarter-final.

Gabriel Jesus put City ahead after only three minutes, but Arsenal levelled through Alexandre Lacazette.

Two goals in four minutes from Riyad Mahrez and Foden put City firmly in control, before Aymeric Laporte put the lid on the win.

21 Feb 2021: Arsenal 0-1 Man City (PL)

Another league encounter between Arsenal and Man City, yet another Sterling goal.

His second-minute header was enough for another narrow win and moved Guardiola's side 10 points clear at the top, while Arsenal were left floundering in mid-table.

28 Aug 2021: Man City 5-0 Arsenal (PL)

Arsenal's disastrous start to the 2021/22 season continued as they made it three defeats in as many matches, all without scoring a goal.

Ferran Torres struck twice along with further efforts from Ilkay Gundogan, Jesus and Rodri to leave 10-man Arsenal, who had Granit Xhaka sent off in the first half, rock-bottom of the Premier League.

1 Jan 2022: Arsenal 1-2 Man City (PL)

While this match would prove far closer than their August meeting, Arsenal could still not overcome City, who recorded an 11th successive league win on New Year's Day.

Bukayo Saka put Arsenal ahead just after the half-hour, but Mahrez equalised in the second half before Rodri hit a last-gasp winner from close range to deny the home side a deserved draw, despite going down to 10 men for the final 31 minutes after Gabriel's red card.

27 Jan 2023: Man City 1-0 Arsenal (FA Cup)

There had been little to separate the two in the Premier League and it proved to be a matter of small margins once more, this time in the FA Cup fifth round.

Having kept a close eye on Erling Haaland, Arsenal did probably not bank on City defender Nathan Ake being the player to make the difference to send his side through with a second-half winner.

15 Feb 2023: Arsenal 1-3 Man City (PL)

A vital win for City in their duel with leaders Arsenal, as they leapfrogged their opponents and returned to the top of the table for the first time since November.

De Bruyne put the visitors in front, only for Saka to reply just before the break.

City turned up the pressure late on, as Jack Grealish and Haaland both completed a memorable night.

26 Apr 2023: Man City 4-1 Arsenal (PL)

Unlike recent encounters, Arsenal were outclassed in this match, as City swung the title-race momentum firmly back in their favour.

De Bruyne and John Stones ensured a commanding two-goal lead heading into the break, before the Belgian struck again and Haaland's late strike meant he became the outright top scorer in a 38-match Premier League season.

6 Aug 2023: Man City 1-1 Arsenal (Community Shield) (Arsenal win 4-1 on pens)

The most recent meeting between the two came at Wembley when Arteta got a rare victory over Guardiola, with his side lifting the FA Community Shield.

In another tight affair, substitute Cole Palmer put City ahead in the second half, only for another sub, Leandro Trossard, to strike with almost the last kick to send the match to penalties. In the shootout, Arsenal won partly thanks to Rodri's miss.
