Carney Chukwuemeka has undergone surgery on his left knee, Chelsea have confirmed.
The 19-year-old midfielder was forced off just before half-time in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to West Ham United, a match in which he pulled Chelsea level with his first goal for the club.
“Last night [Monday] Carney underwent surgery and will now begin his recovery,” a statement read on Chelsea’s official website.
“The 19-year-old will work with the club's medical department on his rehabilitation at Cobham.”
