Fulham have secured the signing of Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey from Ajax.

The 23-year-old has joined Fulham on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee and subject to international clearance, which is expected next week.

He becomes the club’s second signing of the summer, after Raul Jimenez.

“I know how big of a club Fulham is," Bassey, who was born in Italy but moved to London as a child, told FFCtv. "They always have quality players, they’re playing in the Premier League, the best league in the world, so I didn’t have to think much about it.

“It’s a London club as well, so it’s always a plus to go home! I’m happy it’s all done now and I can just focus on the football and help the team build on last season, when they did amazing.”

The left-sided defender began his career at Leicester City’s Academy.

He moved to Rangers in 2020, where in his first season he helped Gers to win the Scottish Premiership, keeping a record 26 clean sheets.

Bassey moved from left-back to centre-back in his second season at Rangers and was key to their run to the final of the UEFA Europa League.
