Liverpool duo Diogo Jota (£8.0m) and Cody Gakpo (£7.5m) have both had a change of position in 2023/24 Fantasy Premier League

Jota was listed as a forward in Fantasy last season but is now classified as a midfielder after featuring as a winger upon his return from injury.

Gakpo, meanwhile, changes from a midfielder to a forward having played as a lone striker following his January move from PSV Eindhoven.

Jota’s switch could prove particularly significant, bearing in mind managers can own up to five midfielders compared with only three forwards.

The Portuguese was limited to just 20 starts and managed a mere 80 points last season.

When selected, however, he was involved in a team-high 46 per cent of his side’s goals, compared with the 43 per cent of Mohamed Salah (£12.5m).

Jota also found the net at a quicker rate than the Egyptian, averaging a goal every 165.3 minutes to the 173.2 of Salah.

Although Salah remains the go-to Liverpool attacker, Jota could be a popular double-up option when they have a run of favourable opponents.

Mid-price options

Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson (£6.0m), Arsenal’s Kai Havertz (£7.5m) and Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo (£6.5m) have also changed from forwards to midfielders for 2023/24 Fantasy.

Johnson was Forest’s main goal threat last season, with his 43 shots in the box and 27 shots on target both team-leading totals last time around.

Havertz looks set to play as a “No 10” in Arsenal’s 4-1-2-3 formation after signing from Chelsea.

The German has the schedule to make an immediate impact on 2023/24 Fantasy.

According to the Fixture Difficulty Ratings (FDR), four of Arsenal’s first six matches score only two.

2 CRY (A)  2 5 EVE (A) 2

Mbeumo has a similarly kind opening run, with five of Brentford's first seven matches scoring only two in the FDR.

His influence could prove all the more important as the Bees’ talisman Ivan Toney (£8.0m) is suspended for the first half of the season.

Crucially, Mbeumo was a huge success when his fellow attacker was absent last season.

He produced five goals and three assists in those five outings, amassing 48 points.
