After fixtures for the 2023/24 Premier League season were released, fans of the three promoted clubs would have been particularly keen to see who their side will play first on the opening weekend.

Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United all face stern tests in Matchweek 1 in their quest to make history.

Never before have all three promoted clubs won their first match back in the competition.

This feat was almost achieved in 2021/22, when Brentford and Watford won, but Norwich City's 3-0 home defeat by Liverpool meant the historic hat-trick of victories was not to be.

Luton, the 51st team to play in the competition, travel to Brighton & Hove Albion, while Burnley play the first match of the season at home to champions Manchester City and Sheff Utd host Crystal Palace.

Sheff Utd have a good record ahead of their own Premier League return, losing only one of their five Premier League openers, while Burnley beat reigning champions Chelsea 3-2 in a shock away win in 2017/18.

The trio should also take heart from the promoted clubs of 2022/23, in their quest to stay in the top-flight.

Last season, AFC Bournemouth, Fulham and Nottingham Forest all retained their Premier League status.

This meant that for just the fourth time in the competition’s history all three promoted clubs had achieved safety.
