Aston Villa have announced the appointment of Unai Emery as their new head coach.

He will join the club from Spanish side Villarreal following the departure of Steven Gerrard.

The 50-year-old will take over on 1 November when his work-permit formalities are completed.

Emery is back in the Premier League having been in charge of Arsenal from May 2018 to November 2019.

He has a wealth of managerial success, winning the the UEFA Europa League in three successive seasons from 2013 to 2016 with Sevilla.

Emery won the competition a fourth time in 2020/21 with Villarreal, beating Manchester United on penalties.

In two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, he won seven trophies which included the league title once.
