Newcastle move up to 10th place as they seal a 2-1 victory at St James' Park

Callum Wilson's second-half double earned Newcastle United a 2-1 win over Everton at St James' Park.

The Magpies had the best of the first half with Allan Saint-Maximin going closest to an opener, only to be denied by Robin Olsen in the Everton goal.

Wilson put Newcastle ahead from the penalty spot on 56 minutes after he had been fouled by Andre Gomes.

Olsen made a smart save to deny Sean Longstaff before the home side added a second when substitute Ryan Fraser's deflected cross teed up Wilson to score from close range.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored in stoppage time to set up a tense finish but the hosts held on to move up to 11th place with 11 points.

Everton slip to third with 13 points, ahead of Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers on goal difference.
